Frequently Asked Questions
Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
1. What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?
Biodynamic CST is a gentle, hands-on therapy that supports your body’s natural ability to settle, restore, and heal.
People often describe the work as deeply calming - a way of helping the nervous system “remember” how to come back into balance.
2. What kinds of issues can CST help with?
CST can be supportive for:
- stress, overwhelm, and burnout
- anxiety or emotional strain
- trauma or shock
- chronic tension, migraines, headaches
- sleep difficulties
- sensory sensitivity
- a general feeling of being “off” or disconnected from yourself
Some people come with clear concerns; others simply feel they need a place to settle and reconnect. Both are welcome.
3. What happens in a first CST session?
We start with a gentle conversation about what brings you, what’s been happening in your life, and what you hope might change.
You’ll then lie down (fully clothed) and I’ll use light touch - often at the feet, sacrum, spine or head - to support your system in settling.
Most people find the experience surprisingly restful, sometimes more deeply than they’ve felt in a while.
4. How many CST sessions will I need?
Every body responds differently.
Some people feel a shift after one session; others find a series allows deeper change.
To help track your progress, I use the Warwick Holistic Health Questionnaire (WHHQ) - a simple tool that highlights changes in stress, sleep, mood, energy, and overall wellbeing.
It helps us see not only how you feel in the moment, but what’s shifting over time.
We’ll talk together about the pace and frequency that feel right for you.
5. Is CST safe if I have a medical condition or take medication?
CST is very gentle and suitable for most people, but it’s always important that I know about any diagnoses or ongoing treatments so I can work safely.
Please note that Craniosacral Therapy does not replace medical treatment or advice from your doctor or healthcare team.
If you are under medical care, CST should be seen as a complementary therapy - supporting your wellbeing alongside, not instead of, the treatment you’re receiving.
If I feel another practitioner or a different approach would be more supportive, I will always be honest and guide you kindly.
6. What might I feel during or after a CST session?
People commonly report:
a deep settling or quietness
warmth or gentle waves of sensation
a sense of unwinding or softening
clearer breathing
improved sleep
feeling more grounded or emotionally spacious
Changes often continue between sessions. Sometimes the shift is subtle; sometimes it’s quite noticeable.
7. What if I can’t relax or my mind is busy?
That’s absolutely okay - it’s very common.
You don’t need to arrive calm or make your mind quiet for CST to help.
A busy mind is busy for a reason, and I’ll simply meet you as you are.
I’ll guide you gently into slowing down and coming a little more into body sensation, rather than staying caught in your thoughts.
Even if your mind stays active, your system can still settle and respond.
Coaching
8. What is Co-Active Coaching?
Co-Active Coaching is a collaborative, forward-facing process that helps you discover who you truly are and what you really want for your life - and then supports you in moving toward it.
It’s not about fixing you.
It’s about uncovering your strengths, values, and desires, and helping you take meaningful steps toward a more aligned and fulfilling way of living.
9. How is coaching different from therapy?
Therapy often focuses on understanding and healing the past.
Coaching includes your history, but it isn’t the main focus.
Instead we look at:
what’s here now
what you deeply want
what would make your life feel more alive, meaningful, or spacious
Coaching helps you create change rather than only understand it.
10. What happens in a first coaching session?
We begin with where you are now - your current challenges, longings, values, and the areas of your life that feel alive or stuck.
From there, we explore what you want to create and what might be getting in the way.
Sessions often feel like a mix of clarity, surprise, deeper self-connection, and practical next steps.
11. Do I need a specific goal to start coaching?
Not at all.
Many people come to coaching because they’re unsure.
Together we discover what feels meaningful, energising, or calling for attention in your life.
12. Is coaching suitable if I’m experiencing mental health difficulties?
Coaching can work beautifully alongside therapy, but it doesn’t replace mental-health care.
If you’re in acute distress, crisis, or dealing with trauma that needs specialised support, therapy is usually the right first step.
I’ll always be honest about what feels safe and appropriate - your wellbeing comes first.
13. What might I experience after a coaching session?
People often leave feeling:
clearer
more energised
more connected to themselves
newly motivated
or gently reflective
Coaching tends to create movement - sometimes subtle, sometimes significant - and many people notice new insights or shifts between sessions.
